Penny

I was blessed enough to share my life with Penny for a total of 4,812 days
or 13 years, 2 months, and 5 days. She was not just a dog she was my
best friend through all life’s ups and downs.
Penny was found with her “liter” in a southwest Georgia sewer system. She
was the only Brown and white pup amongst the five- puppy liter. Penny was
the first of the five I picked up and she did not want to leave me; she just
laid on me like an infant. Which is why I say she picked me, I had another
one I thought I wanted but she won out! Penny came home to my
apartment on the Andrew College campus in Cuthbert, GA. She was
immediately loved by all of campus! She was the new campus celebrity.
Animal Control told us she was 8 weeks old but within the first 24 hours or
so she started to get sick and by day 3 she was making her very first vet
visit. The vet said this puppy is NOT 8 weeks old, she is more like 4.5/5
weeks old and should still be with her mom. She also had worms. For the
next couple of weeks, I had to feed her goats milk or evaporated milk. The
vet said I may have to bottle feed her, but my girl wasn’t going for that, she
lapped it up right out of the bowl! Penny started rapidly growing, she was
83 pounds at 13 months old! She was given nicknames like, Big Dog,
Monster Pup, Monster Girl, to Penn-Penn, Penny Lane, Penny girl,
Princess, to name a few. Penny lived on a college campus for almost the
first two years of her life. She was a ballpark dog and came to the games
when I worked the concession stand. She was asked to be in one of the
parades, she was pictured in the yearbook, and even gave out
pawtographs. Since we lived on a college campus for my job there were
times we had to come back up to Cherokee County for breaks when
campus was closed. She immediately took a liking to my best friend’s kids,
even the youngest, newly home from the hospital she would give him
kisses in his car seat and my Godson who was about 3 years old at the
time. Those two were inseparable. He told his older sister he didn’t need a
pillow when he spent the night at my house because he used Penn Penn.
She would eat French fries out of the kids’ mouths and be so gentle about
it. I always joked and said she let my Godson do anything to her, play with
her ears, lay on her, put glasses on her, it seemed endless. She loved kids
of all ages!
Penny has lived in three counties in Georgia, multiple houses and has been
to more states than some people probably. She has been my co-pilot from
Georgia to Phoenix, AZ and from Georgia to Northern Illinois. She was the
best at just rolling with the punches and moving wherever we had to. She
was my ride or die, she drove me crazy and licked away my tears. Penny
would come to my niece or nephew’s games, she came to my softball
games and hung out in the dugout. She spent some time playing with
friends in a doggy day care in Illinois, and Texas. She loved to go to all the
doggy friendly stores, and she knew where they kept the scooby snacks!
Her personality was bigger than she was! Not sure she ever met someone
she didn’t like! She had many friends of the human and four- legged kind.
She was featured in multiple publications, search and finds, she was in All
around Woodstock magazine and just recently she was a Quarter Finalist
in the America’s Favorite Pet Contest which has over 62,700 participants.
Penny loved to play with her soccer ball, Red Kong frisbee and a tennis ball
all at the same time, and then keep them hostage from her mom! She was
a talker giving her another nickname of Chewbacca. We have SO many
memories of our girl and stories that will live on in our hearts! Penny was a
one-of-a-kind dog, and to say that she will be missed is a HUGE
understatement. We love you always my Penn-Penn girl!
